Fujie Matsuoka, 88, of Kealakekua died Nov. 16 at Galanto Care Home in Kailua-Kona. Born in Kealakekua, she was a retired clerk for Oshima Dry Goods and Pharmacy, and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Asahi Kumiai and Kona Senior Karaoke Club. Private services. Survived by son, Danny Matsuoka of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Janis (Horace) Walker of Kealakekua, Joni (Neil) McDermott of Tipp City, Ohio, and Cathy (Dale Emmert) of Milford, Calif.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Violet Corpuz Suguitan Nakagawa, 93, of Papaaloa, died Nov. 11 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bario Lanas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Papaaloa Senior Citizens and Hawaii Island Adult Care Center. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Graveside committal service 1 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire; flowers welcome.
